I've watched a few videos about these churches on YouTube. Like I said, there are very few of them left. Most of them classify as Pentecostal or other types of Holiness churches, and their congregations are usually small and made up almost entirely of a single family. Practicing such unusual things during their services, particularly the handling snakes, has been made illegal in many states.
Outside of the snakes, fire, and poison, their services seem fairly typical of what you'd see in any other backwoods, holy roller church. The main issue I have with such practices as these is that many of these churches base their entire doctrine around those few verses. It's almost like God is shifted out, and the snakes and poisons become their God. It's scary. I'm apt to believe that their spirit is off. I'm not entirely sure it's the Holy Ghost they are feeling in the videos I've seen.
Do any of you have thoughts concerning this?

I would say so...

Re: With Signs Following
Mark 16:18
[18] They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
The problem that I see with that group of believers is they take the verse literally. If someone already stated that, sorry, I didnt read all the posts. Is the verse talking about literal snakes biting you? Is the verse talking about drinking poison and no harm will come? Why would the Lord use those 2 deadly acts in the verse?

Yes, it has already been stated that these churches take this verse literally. That is the issue. They take it as meaning that we, as Christians, can literally take up serpents, drink poison, play with fire, etc. and no harm shall come to us because our faith in God will protect us. If we lack the faith, any consequences of doing such things could be deadly, and it's all the result of us lacking in faith.

Even though I'm not physically there, you can feel a spiritual presence that isn't aligning with mine. It isn't of God.

The counseling sessions might get awkward.

Re: With Signs Following
Yes, I've asked her. She doesn't think that it's right either.
I appreciate your concern for her, though.
