Minor correction, it's the second book of John, not the third in which John addresses "the elect lady."

Anyone know or wonder why John is writing to a married woman instead of her husband? (John references children, so I'm assuming she's married, though perhaps she is a widow)

The elect lady is likely a euphemism for the church. Otherwise it's a letter to a prominent widow and her family, and not to a church. In any event, no elect lady in the church in John's day would be demanding a right to preach at men.

He wrote to the Lady, the wife of the Lord
That's why speaks for her children walking in Truth and finally send greetings by her Sister
