Re: The Man Of Sin-King Of The North

In Daniel 12, we see the prophecy moving from events concerning the kingdoms following the death of Alexander to prophecies concerning the resurrection and final judgement.

Did the great tribulation and resurrection of the dead occur at the time of Antiochus? Those events follow the prophecy concerning the king of the north Daniel saw.

So would you say there was a prophetic "gap" between Daniel 11 and 12?

Then follows Daniel 11, the "Book of Truth": much of the history it recounts is accurate down to the two successive Syrian invasions of Egypt in 170 and 168 BCE, but there was no third war between Egypt and Syria, and Antiochus did not die in Palestine.

So the third war didn't happen, and it goes then to the resurrection. The prophecy hasn't been fully fulfilled, then?

Things Antiochus IV didn't do:

v36: "magnify himself above every god".

v37: “He shall regard neither the god of his fathers nor the desire of women, nor regard any god; for he shall exalt himself above them all."

The Antiochus IV coin said "King Antiochus, God Manifest", and on the other side it had an image of Zeus or Apollo. I wouldn't call that what v36 and 37 says.
Antiochus was generally devoted to the Greek gods, and he specifically erected a statue of Zeus, and required sacrifices to be made to it.
He also advocated the worship of Dionysius in Jerusalem.

No, Antiochus IV is not that king after verse 36.

In Daniel 12 Daniel is given a vision of the last days. This is a change of subject from Daniel 11. He is told he will rest and rise again and receive his eternal reward.

So its possible to have a time "gap" in prophecy of several thousand years. Isnt this the entire battle between "futurists" and everyone else?

At least 2000 years between the last verse of chapter 11 to the first verse of 12?

Personally I dont think there is a gap there. It seems the me the gap "may" be in verse 20-21.

Re: The Man Of Sin-King Of The North

Jesus warned:

Mark 13:14

Quote:
14But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:
Let those words sink in.

Standing where it ought not.

Now return to Daniel 11:45.

Quote:
45And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
Does anyone else notice something in verse 45 "standing where it ought not"?
