Baptism Question
**NOTE: This is NOT started for argument, only for information please...
For the elders who baptize in Jesus' Name, do you say "for the remission of sins" after invoking the Name of Jesus, and is it necessary to do so?
Thank you...

Re: Baptism Question
Usually BEFORE the person is dunked it is stated, “Barb, based on your confession of faith I baptize you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.”
When Barb is dunked “In Jesus’ name” is spoken while she is under the water.

Is the baptism invalid if "for the remission is sins" is not spoken?

Re: Baptism Question
It is most commonly used.
However, I would say the only words that need to be used are:
In the name of Jesus Christ.

Re: Baptism Question
I've also heard this one used...
Quote:
Because your faith in his name for the remission of your sins, I now baptize you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Precisely. The exact words are irrelevant, all that matters is the Name. Tradition would say to use the formula you quoted, and there's nothing wrong with that tradition, but the name of Jesus - and by extension, the blood of Jesus - is what sets us free. The eloquence (or lack thereof) of the baptizer will neither save nor condemn you.

Re: Baptism Question
A follow up question:
Is it necessary for the person being baptized to believe it is for the purpose of receiving remission of their sins?
