Am I too serious?
Drawing from memories past, or is it passed? Whatever. Anyway. When attending churches I’ve always been surrounded by people that make jokes and laugh at each others jokes. I found the to be corny. When I didn’t laugh I was asked why I’m not laughing. Everyone was having a good time laughing. I was sitting there enduring it.
So, am I too serious? Do church people joke too much?

You are not "too serious", and yes, church people (and others as well) often joke "too much".

Re: Am I too serious?
I unfriended a pastor on Facebook over stuff like that. I posted:
I feel a heaviness in my spirit
He replied something like “did you have touch Taco Bell.” Or maybe it was bean burritos. Anyway. Gone.

Re: Am I too serious?
All depends on my mood...sometimes I'm rockin the whole,"chaotic trickster" and sometimes I'm just stonefaced. People need to understand that "sober" in biblical connotation means more about how you act than how much you drink. If you never drink a drop but don't know when to be serious...God probably wants you to grow up a bit.

Setting and context matter. Are you speaking of ministers who make jokes during their sermon? Or just in general?

Re: Am I too serious?
This just came to me...the reason alcohol was prohibited during temple service was that they had to be able to judge the holy from the profane...is it possible that being habitually "unsober" in our attitude and actions has led to us calling some things that are profane, holy? Does it decrease our capacity to judge and discenrn?

Re: Am I too serious?
There is a time and place for everything.
Ecclesiastes 3:1
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: I don't believe that every church service is a place for hilarity, silliness, and laughter. But, in the proper time and place, laughter and being a little silly is healthy. Laughter is actually a beautiful thing. And it can be healing. The Bible says so...
Proverbs 17:22
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. Laughter is good for your heart and soul. In Proverbs 7:22 it says “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine”. God has a sense of humor (Ever seen the hairline on some of us guys? The hammerhead shark? Hillary Clinton's stupendous ability to lose an election that's rigged in her favor? Or the platypus? lol). Yeah, I've seen too many hilarious "coincidences" not to think that God has a rather sharp wit and healthy sense of humor. lol
Doctors aren't sure why, but laughter is good for the body. Laughter, happiness, and joy are perfect antidotes for stress according to Dr. Don Cobert, noting the research conducted by the Department of Behavioral medicine at the UCLA medical School. Colbert added “A noted doctor once said that the diaphragm, thorax, abdomen, heart, lungs and even the liver are given a massage during a hearty laugh."
Laughter, joy, and a merry heart boosts the immune system, releases tension, releases stress from the body, makes you more enjoyable to be around, relieves stress on those around you, and all this is just good health by design. While it's nice that doctors can tell us that laughter and a merry heart is good for us, we really didn't need their research. It's right in the Bible.
So, if think you might be way too serious... you probably are. Lighten up a little bit. Pick your boundaries (your convictions are important!), but allow yourself some space to be happy and to express that happiness. Give yourself some space to laugh and to maybe help others laugh.
3 John 2
2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. Relax a little. There's a time and place for everything.

Re: Am I too serious?
Read Nehemiah 8. Ezra was reading the law of Moses to the people. It appears the reading and explanation of the law of Moses caused the people to mourn, because in verse 9, he said, "This day is holy unto the LORD your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law."
Verse 10 "Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength."
After this, they had a feast for seven days while reading the law of Moses (vs 18). Verse 17 says "And there was very great gladness."
I'm not for ministers acting like clowns or comedians behind the pulpit. But I don't believe we should look like we're sucking prunes and lemons.
The world is a terrible place. There's enough sorrow and sadness we have to face every day.
Psalm 16:11 "Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore."
There should be joy in His presence. Now, this joy is not the same as someone acting like a clown during church. But there is joy and we should be joyful in His presence.
