Re: Manipulators: Why do they do it?

Why do they manipulate? That's simple. Because people empower them to do so.

Ow.

Ok, so how does one go about *not* empowering them?

And, I know that your comment is valid. It was my first thought too, my question was my next.

Don't give that person 'control' over your life. It's hard to explain, but easy to practice.

Sometimes. Not for me right now. I *should* be past this, but I'm not.

Crazy making - saying one thing and later assuring you they did not say it.If you find yourself in a relationship where you figure you should start keeping a log of what’s been said because you are beginning to question your own sanity --You are experiencing emotional manipulation. An emotional manipulator is an expert in turning things around, rationalizing, justifying and explaining things away. They can lie so smoothly that you can sit looking at black and they’ll call it white - and argue so persuasively that you begin to doubt your very senses. Over a period of time this is so insidious and eroding it can literally alter your sense of reality. WARNING: Emotional Manipulation is VERY Dangerous! It is very disconcerting for an emotional manipulator if you begin carrying a pad of paper and a pen and making notations during conversations.
I was once in a relationship like this. He was a master manipulator and had many on board with him. Many with similar characteristics are anti-social and psychopaths. They have no knowledge of right and wrong...they lie when the truth would be a better fit.

My sanity was not in question until I fell for it a second time with the same person. Even though I know what I know...I could not believe someone to be that bad. I was wrong.

These type of people are to be avoided and feared.

lol....Dude are you being funny? One of the "tricks" of a manipulator is to blame the "victim"

Right. And when you're stupid enough to believe you are at fault.... Where is Carpenter when someone needs to be slapped. (The victim, not Prax)

I sometimes wonder if a psychopath is one step away from schizophrenic. I knew someone that was schizophrenic and being around him was like being around a manipulator/liar that had you questioning your own sanity at some point
