Do Hard Things

My 15 year-old just asked for this book and we bought it yesterday. it was advertised in "Breakaway" magazine and so went and got it.

The forward is by Chuck Norris

and it looks like a really good book, here are some excerpts;

"Most people don't expect you to understand what we're going to tell you in this book. And even if you understand, they don't expect you to care. And even if you care, they don't expect you to do anything about it. And even if you do something about it, they don't expect it to last.

Well, we do."

"Everything God commands is hard. Repenting is hard. Forgiving is hard. Turning the other cheek is hard. Overcoming sin in our lives is hard. Honoring our parents is hard. Sharing the gospel is hard. Reading our Bibles is hard. We could go on.

Part of our hesitation to call things hard can be that we're afraid to come across as unspiritual. After all, if we're truly "on fire" for Jesus, shouldn't it be easy for us to read our Bibles every day, say no to sin, and share the gospel with others?

But when we think that way we're missing something huge that God wants to teach us about personal growth and His plan for our lives." http://www.boundless.org/2005/articles/a0001726.cfm

Has anyone on here read it? What did ya think?

Re: Do Hard Things

This is very exciting. I'm going to look into it for my 15-year-old son and, possibly, our youth group. Please keep us posted!

Re: Do Hard Things

I would like to get this book for my son.

However, I think he'd consider it 'hard' to read....LOL!

Before my son went on his mission trip, the only thing he would voluntarily read is his "Breakaway" and anything with A-Rod on or Jeter on the front. Now he is asking for all kinds of books. He has already done the 3:16 for teens by Max Lucado. now he is on to this one, and he wants to read "Facing your Giants" after this one...

Re: Do Hard Things

I bought the book today and will begin reading it myself before I give it to my son to read. I'm excited about it.

The central message is 1 Timothy 4.12, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity."
