It is indeed possible to make an idol of the KJV. I know folks who will not sit so much as a piece of paper on their KJV bible!

My folks were like that, probably still are, but I don't think it was just KJV. Had nothing to do with that.
Yeah, it may not be the KJV, itself, but the Bible. A book. Yes, the bible holds truth, but it is not an idol, or object of reverence. I revere the message. Not the paper and ink and leather.

Oh, that reminds me of a time back in high school (around 1970). At an after-school Bible study, a guy was making that very point. He actually dropped his Bible on the floor to demonstrate it. Not everyone took kindly to that little demo!

I can imagine. I know many people who would convulse at such a thing.

I 'prophesied' many years ago that the UPC wold trade their KJV's in for more liberal translations - and I have lived to see that come to pass, how sad.
I also like the Tyndale version.
Why do people do this?????
Look, just cause some in the UPC may have, does not mean that "The UPC" has.
Every UPC I associate with primarily uses the KJV.
My cousin Bubba "profesied" that every male in Johnston county would be chewin SKOAL wintergreen by summer of 2005 too.
Well, half his highschool class was, as of last year and he is completely convinced the whole county has been converted. Funny thing though, the other 90% have stayed with chewin gum. But you can't tell Bubba that. To him, the whole world is hooked on SKOAL.
Personally, I believe that the English Standard Version (ESV) is the most accurate translation and closest to the original text in modern English. I also like the ESV because it's translated to keep the melodic tempo of the King James Version.

Is it from the Textus Receptus?

Not entirely. It's based on various older manuscripts. As we all well know, the Textus Receptus has been modified various times throughout it's existance. The many of the older manuscripts haven't undergone these modifications and therefore reflect the original writings. For example the Textus Receptus John chapter 8 has an obvious insertion for clarification that isn't present in any of the older manuscripts. Not to mention Romans 8 (second clause of Romans 8:1 wasn't in the original manuscripts) and others.
Personally, I don't hold the Textus Receptus in any higher regard than I do most of the older manuscripts found to date.
What I find interesting is that Oneness Apostolics tend to favor the Textus Receptus which possesses a strong Trinitarian bent. Most older manuscripts actually present a better case for Apostolic Oneness Christology.
