Re: Something I watched today

enemies are enemies, and it seems you can turn the other cheek or fight, but i don't see how you can do both. It is trying to sit on a fence and be part in the world.

Jesus specifically spoke about self defense OF HIMSELF at THAT MOMENT. To extrapolate that into a universal rule for all people seems to me to go beyond the context and the actual words.

Votive pretty much nailed it on this one, although I'm not sure Peter was using a fisherman's knife necessarily...

This is true, of Jesus. But can you pray and have God send you 12 legions of angels? Maybe God will, perhaps He won't.

Untold numbers of people have surely prayed to God in their last moments, to find themselves not delivered from the harm that was befalling them.

Jesus didn't want Peter to defend Him because He was going the way the Father had sent Him. As the very anointed Chosen One, because His entire life and death were ordained, and His purpose perfectly and Scripturally predestined, Jesus could know for a certainty when or when not, His hour was come.

Can anyone say the same of themselves?

Re: Something I watched today

Well, it seems the argument has changed from it's not about self defense to it's about self defense for Jesus only.

And yes, I believe I can and would call on God to send help in a time of distress. What else would we hope for? But in doing so, we must be prepared for whatever His Will is for that situation.

How is this not the Christian message? You say untold numbers have prayed in their last breaths to find themselves not delivered from harm. Maybe not, but the will of God was done and as a believer would you rather live out your own will or die in the Will of God?

The argument has always been the same - Jesus did not defend himself and did not allow anyone to defend him because he was on a mission to die.

Now, can anyone show where self defense is sin?

Re: Something I watched today

Not me. Im just trying to get to 100. It's enough for me to believe when He said "all they that take the sword" that WE are actually the "all they".
