It's been my experience that even asking the question will get you labeled as "carnally minded", and most won't even attempt to answer it. They'll just write you off as a compromiser. Or a swine.

I think if they feel someone is unwilling to listen, it frustrates them. I was not offended, but wish he wouldn't have jumped to that conclusion so quickly.
The only reality is that after the progression of this thread - I see why he wouldn't want to engage. I can give him that.

Those that play the "pearls before swine" card are cowards.
They simply have no corn in the crib. They no they poor exegisis of scripture will be pounced upon by anyone with a lick of sense.
So they throw off their best insults, calling you a repobate swine or a charismatic or an emergent or WHATEVER !
One of the truest tests of a real Crhistian is the ability to admit that they have been wrong.
Something very few on wedeclare will ever be willing to do.

This quote from Tolstoy has been a great help to me, as I have recognized doctrines that I once held as infalible, as being full of holes.
TOLSTOY: MOST MEN ... CAN SELDOM ACCEPT EVEN THE SIMPLEST AND MOST OBVIOUS TRUTH IF IT OBLIGES THEM TO ADMIT THE FALSITY OF CONCLUSIONS WHICH THEY HAVE DELIGHTED IN EXPLAINING TO COLLEAGUES, WHICH THEY HAVE PROUDLY TAUGHT TO OTHERS, AND WHICH THEY HAVE WOVEN, THREAD BY THREAD, INTO THE FABRIC OF THEIR LIVES.
