Re: Hair, sleeves, pantsuits, jewelry, and makeup
A mother and her little girl were at the store. The little girl says, "Mommy, can you buy me some makeup? I want to look pretty." Mother says, "My sweet dear, you don't need to put on makeup to be pretty, just put on that lively smile you have!"
Tithemeister imagines they will be at the checkout line with a cart full of Maybelline. I suspect most other people would imagine a different likely outcome, though...

Perhaps a person can make a literal statement while using some metaphor? Like "do not be adorned with expensive material decorations, but rather be adorned with good works."
Or, maybe like "I ate two plates of food." At your house I guess you'd call 911 because you thought I literally ate THE PLATES themselves, and if I explained "No, that's not what I meant" you'd wonder why I didn't eat any of the food you had available.
Sometimes we can get so clever we become dumb. Just a bit.

A head covering doesn't have to be "tacky". Most arent, actually. Maybe you aren't aware of the wide variety of head coverings that exist?
Or maybe the embarassment isn't due to a fashion thing, but something else?

Serious question: Do the Scriptures prohibit clothing that has gold or silver coloring, or gold/silver colored threads, or hems, embroidery, etc? Is the issue the colors? Or would there be a principle of not looking like an imitation of a prohibited item? (Hope that makes sense?)
Also, does that extend to clothing that contains embroidered designs, colored designs, etc? I mean, is there a line? Bows in the hair? Ribbons/bows/carnations/pins/buttons on clothing, shirts, blouses, jackets, vests, dresses, etc? Silk hanky peeking out of suit jacket pocket? Designs on ties? Tie color? No gold or silver stripe(s) on ties?
Etc? May seem like a silly question(s), but I have daughters who are very skilled at drilling down into Bible debates and they often demand very clear and articulate answers.

Re: Hair, sleeves, pantsuits, jewelry, and makeup
Well since, the two scriptures used for jewelry deal with women, then us guys are OK to wear jewelry.
Sorry ladies, but we guys can wear all the jewelry we want.
