Re: Baptism In Jesus Name:My Testimony

Some questions.
I'll split these into a couple posts because they on different subjects.

1. Did you believe that you were saved/born again back in those days prior to your baptism in the name of Jesus Christ?

2. Looking back now from this side of your baptism, do you believe that you were lost back then prior to your baptism?

Re: Baptism In Jesus Name:My Testimony

Don't some of the Church of Christ ministers baptize in the name of Jesus Christ according to Acts 2:38?
Did you just happen to be in one of the churches of Christ that did not baptize that way?
Is there conflict among the Church of Christ ministers as to Matthew 28:19 versus Acts 2:38?

Re: Baptism In Jesus Name:My Testimony

A problem I had in accepting baptism "in Jesus' name" was the way it was presented.

Stuff I read said
the name of the Father is Lord
the name of the Son is Jesus
the name of the Holy Ghost is Christ
therefore the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost is "Lord Jesus Christ"

Another problem I had was the idea that water baptism is part of a "plan of salvation" and the Holy Ghost Baptism is the same as the birth of the Spirit so nobody is born of the Spirit until he/she speaks with tongues.

A small number of Church Of Christ Pastors do not say anything special just they are baptizing you into Jesus Christ. Seems to be nothing wrong with that. The Pastor who baptized me was D. C. Lawrence in Fairborn, Ohio.

He said in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. At that time I was not aware of the controversy. I doubt there is any big conflict how to baptize among them. Its probably rare to find one who just says "I baptize you into Jesus Christ". I have heard of it but not the norm.

Yea until I was ready to fully accept the scriptures over the experiences and interpretations of men I had a problem with it to.

When one reads Acts 2:38 you cannot help but see there are three things or "steps" that are essential to be fully right with God.

Well I came in on the teaching of Hal Lindsey. Accept Christ in your heart. Your saved forever. 6 weeks later I had an experience with tongues and prophecy. At that time since I was young in these things and had not yet been to Church I did not recognize it as the Holy Spirit baptism just that I knew it was something from God. Months later as I continued to study Jesus words gripped my heart, He that believes and is baptized shall be saved he that believe not shall be damned. Mark 16.

I began to search for a place to be baptized in water. Tho I was enjoying wonderful things from Jesus already Mark 16 would not go away. So I went to the Church of Christ was baptized and began attending Church. I then felt like I had done the things Jesus said to be saved. I still was unaware about baptism in the name of Jesus.

Upon hearing about it I began to consider being baptized that way because I saw the pattern in the book of Acts. You can pick up my story from this point in the video.

I believe I was partly saved. To be fully saved one would need to do all that was commanded by the Apostles. One is not completely saved or born again without the Acts 2:38 experience.

As much as you have heard and even read this yourself Im surprised you still oppose this.

It was presented to me by several people across several years.

As the name of the Father, Son, Holy Ghost was Jesus.

As the first sermon ever preached in the New Testament Church this is what they were commanded that they must do.

As there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved Acts 4:12.

In time these truths grew on me and helped me overcome my doubts about it. One of my fears was I would lose fellowship with my friends over it as described in the video. Jesus made it so real to me that I was able to move on with him and understand that I follow HIM and no one else. His fellowship which I still enjoy to this present day has made it worthwhile.
