Re: Bishop Wright's Shame Seminar Rides Into TX

I think shame in some ways serves as a natural alarm ... much like pain does.

I don't know if I'd put fear and worry ... or even anxiety ... in the same pot with shame ... in all instances.

Of course it all can be layered.

Re: Bishop Wright's Shame Seminar Rides Into TX

Here is the whole seminar ... it seems ... in 40 youtube videos ...

I don't have the time to watch it this weekend but ... I would like to hear this perspective ... and to analyze.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbTdM...eature=related

The video comment states: "The Final Step To Revival Is Dealing With Our Shame"

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Wow... I watched the first video in your opening post.

What a monumental twisting of scripture.

This is what I'm talking about when I say there is a difference between letting the Word speak and making the Word talk.

It might be a good idea to listen to the videos before commenting. I'm only on the tenth video, but this appears to be his point and it is valid to discuss, IMO. A few excerpts:

Quote:
Shame says, "If God is going to give me anything, I've got to work for it. I've got to earn it. I've got to deserve it."

But, your Father does not do what He does for you because you've earned it. He doesn't do for you because of what you do. He does for you because of who you are.

The only way I can love me is to accept His love for me. His love for me tells me my worth.

I can't forgive you, because I don't forgive myself. You can't forgive somebody else until you first let the Lord help you forgive yourself. And if you aren't forgiving yourself, you're never going to forgive other people. Because, I do to you what I first do to me. And what I do to me is either based on what shame convinces me to do or what the love of God convinces me to do. Which are you going to believe? Shame or God?

It's all based on His love. And what is the one thing that shame attacks the most? My ability to believe that God loves me, because I am this terrible person. I'm broken, I'm damaged goods, I am all of this bad stuff. And I may be really trying hard to be this good person to prove to myself and others that I'm not a bad person, but the problem is, deep down inside, in my heart of hearts, I can't get rid of it. I can't get rid of it.

His love for you is based on relationship. It is not based on performance.
Too tired to listen to anymore tonight.

Re: Bishop Wright's Shame Seminar Rides Into TX

One more:

Quote:
My performance does not give me a relationship with God. My relationship with God gives me the ability to perform. I don't do what I do to be loved by God. I do what I do because I'm loved by God.

The love of God is the motivator. It's the mover. It's the thing that makes stuff happen. It's not the goal that I'm trying to obtain to. I'm not trying to obtain the goal of being loved by God. It's believing that I am loved by God that is the means whereby I can obtain the things that God wants me to obtain.

Video one glaring statement: Christians do no have shame because they struggle with sin. People struggle with sin because they have shame. Shame is the root cause of ALL self-destructive behavior.

Video 2 : If you can't help yourself from doing something wrong "the problem is not sin, the problem is shame".

Not a person in this room who sees themselves as God sees them.

We resist the idea of having shame. We are in denial.

We believe there will be an endtime Apostolic revival - it will happen when the people of God deal with their shame.

Reads Joel 2 - They will not be ashamed and afterward the pouring out Spirit in the last day occurs is emphasized by CW.

Video 3: God wants to restore us from what the "worm" has eaten or destroyed away - or 1. Make at peace with and 2. make us whole.

Yet ... We are hypocrites, in the Greek sense - actors who hide behind a mask. Not revealing who we are and most importantly NOT revealing the face of Jesus.

But I think that the very bane of existence for the Wesleyan- Holiness- Pentecostal tradition is the doctrine of subsequence that eventually fleshed out. There is always "something more" that hinders a move of God. Whether it's a frenzied moment of sanctification, baptism by fire, baptism of the Holy Spirit only through tongues and on and on - or to those who must get to the measure of being truly Apostolic.

When do we rest wholly on the Work of the Lamb and His words: It is finished?
