Another strange fact about WMB

In every biography you read about WMB, you'll find the date of his birth as April 6th, 1909. In his sermon "How the Angel came to me...", WMB relates the story of meeting a medium who said he was born on April 6th, 1909 at 5 am. He told her she was correct.

However... a copy of his marriage certificate to his first wife, Hope Brumbach, filled out in WMB's own hand writing, records that his actual birth was April, 8th, 1908.

You can see (download or print) a copy of this marriage certicate at:

You'll find it under "Publications".

Re: Another strange fact about WMB

Are we sure Branham filled this out himself? It's not at all clear from the picture who filled it out.

But even given the incorrect birth date, why on earth would Branham talk to a medium in the first place? Most preachers I know of would have nothing to do with that stuff. Or they'd want to cast the demon of "prophecy" out of the medium, like Paul did (Acts 16:16-18).

As best I can tell, the information written on the left side of the license was written in Bro. Branhams own hand and the date of his birth was recorded as April 8, 1908.

The meeting with the medium was related by WMB. He said this was a chance meeting that took place before his conversion. There may have been more than one encounter with a medium. He said he met the woman on a city bus but also speaks of meeting her at a fair.

Re: Another strange fact about WMB

You have to remember something

Bro Branham was uneducated, many times he would mix up dates and things, this is not uncommon, he was only a man. I know many people now who have a birth cerificate but yet they were not born on that day. Sometimes people did not really know the day of their birth, and would normally put a date just to fill in a form.

And to "SiblingRevelry", bro Branham met the medium before his conversion,
2) gifts and callings are without repentance
3) Bro Branham makes a parallel to this medium to the wise men of the east who studied stars, they knew when certain constellations were aligned. but April the 6th 1909 was his real birth date. ]
4) Many times Spiritualist actually know more "about" God than many ministers today.
Even the evil spirits in Paul's time were speaking the truth yet they were moved by the wrong spirit. So the Holy Spirit exposed the evil Spirit, they knew more than the people of that day
The Bible says that the devil believes God exists and he also trembles.

So mixing of dates is not really a big issue, its normal.
