Tongues and Interpretation?

Does this occur at your church? How often and what pattern?

When I first came to my church many years ago and under a different pastor, it seemed like T&I was a regular occurrence. The pattern was always one "tongue" and one interpretation.

The frequency dropped off for a while. Lately though it's been a regular occurrence. Not only that, the pattern is changed. It's been common to have at least 2 "tongues" then an interpretation AND it's happened several times to have more than one instance of a tongue followed by an interpretation. So we'll have 2 different times in a service where tongues and interpretation occurs. I find it interesting.

One thing that happened many years ago was in a service we had t&i. The interpreter lost it half way through for some reason and another person picked up where he left off instantly and exactly where he left off

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Re: Tongues and Interpretation?

I remember feeling a certain confirmation in my spirit after hearing an interpretation. Now days I'm left skeptical. The most recent interpretation I heard was God saying, "prepare your harvest?"

Matt 9:38, Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest

The harvest belongs to God, not us personally. These days I really don't feel that "confirmation."

Re: Tongues and Interpretation?

Pretty common occurrence at our church. We sometimes have 2 tongues before the interpretation, but normally it is one. Not always, but we have had two interpretations in one service.

I think the gifts are more prevalent depending on the sensitivity of the leadership. It is important that leadership is all about what God wants from us during any given service and not a program. We can come organized and should be organized, but we need to make sure that we are wise enough and sensitive enough to get out of the way if God changes directions. That is the NT church to me.

This is the feeling I get with most prophesy and interpretation...even sermons unfortunately. No inner witness, just a lot of fluff.

Re: Tongues and Interpretation?

Maybe once a month or so...

As to how I "feel" upon hearing them, I judge them according to what I know and understand of the scriptures - never anything more. In short, I readily accept the word of God when presented and read in context. T&I I accept with somewhat more reservation than a simple reading of the text.
