Christ Church Nashville was our church for many years. We moved further away to a town outside Nashville and after several back surgeries the 45 minute drive each way became too much for my wife so we looked for a closer church. Christ Church Nashville enjoyed similar success as to the church we attend now but decades before. In the late 70's CC ran just a couple of hundred then grew to over 4,000 members by the 90's. Pastor Hardwick pastored the church for over 50 years (he began pastoring at age 19). Sadly since Pastor Hardwick retired his successsor has not done well and the church is just a shell of it's former self. Several years ago they had to go from two Sunday morning services to one because of so many people having left. The decade we were there if you didn't get to the 11 am service at least 15 minutes before church started you would most likely be sitting on a row of chairs placed at the bakc of the balcony for overflow! Planning for the right successor is critical or something like this can happen.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Very true.
My parents knew the Hardwicks (before they were even married) and still cannot understand that decision.

Re: Church this weekend
Had tremendous church. Special services Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Lots of powerful preaching and prayer. We baptized 4 people on Saturday. One of which was an 80 year old Church of God lady who has been in the Church of God since she 28.
Themes of the messages were the essentialist if the new birth as per Acts 2:38, being lead by the spirit, consecration and holiness, faith and evangelism. A very powerful weekend. I believe we also had 2 filled with the Holy Ghost.
