I didn't hear Jakes speak and so cannot comment. But I question how serious he is about denouncing sin since he allows Deion Sanders and Micheal Irvin in his pulpit, choose to bring Creflo Dollar (he who runs through money on the altar and says pay tithes or get shot), Joel Osteen (who says he doesn't speak about sin in his ministry, which I'm still trying to figure out how that's compatible with a Spirit anointed ministry as per
John 16:8), and since Jakes himself implied that Muslims and homosexuals could be the "other sheep" Jesus spoke about . (Ummm, actually that's pretty simple, the other sheep were Gentiles not Muslims who deny Christ was crucified and homosexuals of whom Paul says "do NOT be deceived.....homosexuals...shall not inherit the Kingdom of God.").
So for these reasons and more I don't have any confidence in Jakes. I think he's a wolf sheep's clothing. I think he's the type of false teacher Jesus warned about in Matt 7 and we are told to judge by their fruit.
We tend to equivocate fruit with success or size. But the test of a true man of God is faithfulness to God and His Word, not #s of followers.
It is easy to talk about sin in vague general terms. Everyone knows they've sinned. Sin isn't a bad word or dangerous. It won't even stir people up to say turn away from your sins. But start defining sin then tell people to repent and its a whole nother story. That is the place of the man of God. To make a distinction between the holy and unholy, to cry out against sin, to cause people to hear God's Words (which always includes turning from sin,per Jeremiah14 & 23). And to then to bring healing and reconciliation. There can be no healing unless sin is honestly dealt with.
