Samson didn't know when the anointing had left him.
Saul tried to recreate it after losing the anointing.
David was anointed in the midst of his brethren, and never forgot what that felt like.

If we have His Spirt we are annointed.
Saul, Sampson and David were annointed for specific times and purposes but that annointing did not involve a constant indwelling of His Spirit but just that His Spirit rested upon whom it had annointed.
We cannont compare Old Testament annointings with New Testament annointings because His Spirit abides within us and stays instead of coming and leaving as it does with Old Testament figures.
That is the reason why Jesus said that there is no greater man born of woman than John the Baptist but the least in the Kingdom is greater than he.
All the OT prophets up to John the Baptist pointed ahead to Christ and said,"Hes coming!"
John the Baptist said,"He's here!" but He also had to say "There He goes."
As believers we never have to say,"There He goes because He abides."
