I Want the Easy Way!
Mat 11:30 For my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light.
Jam 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, [and] easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
I think that sometimes we make salvation harder than God intended it to be. It's like we are trying to earn grace.
I've been told many times that I'm just looking for the easy way to be saved, and as long as I'm still walking the walk, I say "Amen!" This doesn't mean I'm open to sin, it just means I'm removing things that can be roadblocks to the expansion of the Apostolic message.
What do you think?

Re: I Want the Easy Way!
I have heard of this too the so called (Easy Way) I just think other religions use grace alittle more than the upc does. I really don't hear much on grace in the UPC churches I have been in

Re: I Want the Easy Way!
I read the passage you are referencing in Matthew 11, some time ago, when we were working with the youth.
Quote:
Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
(29) Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
(30) For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
|
I asked the Lord, in prayer, "How with all the things that go on and happen is anything easy?"
He told me to read I Peter 5:7 "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."
That is the only thing that makes our yoke easy and our burdens light.

Good post...
The Scripture says that "the way of transgressors is hard" ( Job 13:15). The NLT reads that they walk "a rocky road."
Regardless of the problems and issues that are just a part of every day living, living for God should be the easiest thing we ever do...

Indeed...
What was he talking about that was easy compared to the yoke they had been carrying?
A yoke of endless laws and regulations to attain some level of righteousness?
That would seem to be the yoke he was offering to deliver them from.

Re: I Want the Easy Way!
It's ought to be as easy for me to carry a cross as it was for Simon of Cyrene, neither one of us had to endure the beating and pain Jesus did......
The King with the crown of thorns gives grace to endure the single thorn in the flesh......
Yep our load is lighter and our way is brighter.......not so hard when you take things into proper perspective........

The tortures which you mention were dealt upon these men by the World. There will be tribulations.
I think the thread is about it being easy to have a relationship with God. That having a relationship with God is not a matter of jumping through a kazillion hoops and trying to find righteousness in what we do.
No matter what comes at us from this world... it should be an easy thing to have a relationship with our God through the work of Jesus Christ.

I agree with you. It ought not to be hard, all things considered. But Jesus did say "Let a man deny himself, take up his cross and follow me". Even that should be easy compared to what Jesus went through for us........
I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHICH STRENGTHENS ME!

Re: I Want the Easy Way!
I beseech you therefore, brethren (and sisters too), by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And by not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.
