Re: What Are You Reading Currently, 2.0

I finally finished SPQR: An Ancient History of Rome by Dr. Beard. I've also finished reading 1 Corinthians in my Reina Valera, and am currently reading 2 Corinthians. In my ESV, I finished Psalms and have moved into Proverbs. I'm still in Genesis in the NKJV. As for the NLT, I've finished the Minor Prophets, and have taken up Joshua.

I started reading The Social Contract by Jean-Jacque Rousseau, but put it down and decided to start reading The Purpose of Man by A.W. Tozer.

Do you mean "post" or did you mean "thread"?

Re: What Are You Reading Currently, 2.0

I also started reading The Hidden Book in the Bible by Richard Elliot Friedman. It was not what I thought it was when I bought it. I will probably still read it, just not right now. It seems to be about the Document Hypothesis view of the OT, particularly the Pentateuch, and the idea that the "J" document from Genesis 1 all the way to 1 Kings 2 was written by the same person.

Here is a summary of D.H.:

Re: What Are You Reading Currently, 2.0

I just started reading a series by an Apostolic author that is very well written.
My pre-teen son has read all of the series, except for the latest.
These are set in Roman times and are historical fiction.
Here is a link to the author, who was also a great Bible quizzer in his time!

Weird, it wasn't showing up earlier.

Re: What Are You Reading Currently, 2.0

O, dear. If I posted ALL of what is in my reading list, the website would likely crash! However, apart from 45 chapters a day of the Authorized Version and the weekly reading of the creeds in my signature, the following are in my go-bag.
  1. William Huntington's Funeral for Arminianism
  2. WJ Chantry's Signs of the Apostles
  3. KFT Matrunola's The Doctrines of Grace
  4. Benjamin Winslett's The Characteristics of a Thriving Church, a personal friend
  5. JC Philpot's Strict Communion & Were Christ's Disciples Baptized?

Let us express it this way. My publisher, Gospel Mission Christian Books, stocks in excess of 2000 titles. I was the sole person in its history who did not need to be educated on much of those titles, actually able to educate my publisher on the authors and the works. Since leaving continuationism in 2014, the rough estimate of my reading is about 200 or 300 writings with possibly 500 to 700 on the high end. I often send Michæl works from my archive he lacks or frankly did not know existed. It has been helpful as an author and a blessing to the saints.

See the 1689 Second London Baptist Confession, 1693 (Keach's) Catechism as well as Gadsby's Catechism for the summation of my doctrinal beliefs; I do not maintain filiation and spiration. I emphatically hold to all Five Solas also the Scriptural Law of Worship.

So a fresh start it is!

Currently, I am reading the following:

- The English Standard Version of the Holy Bible, currently in the Book of Nehemiah

- The New Living Translation of the Holy Bible, currently in the Book of Jeremiah

- The Five Books of Moses, by Dr. Robert Altar, a translation of Genesis through Deuteronomy, currently in Leviticus

- Narcissism: Denial of the True Self, by Dr. Alexander Lowen, M.D.

- The Way of Humility: Corruption and Sin/On Self-Accusation, by Jorge Mario Bergoglio (i.e. Pope Francis)
Why would you read something by the man of sin who happens to be a Jesuit master of Ignatian theosophy? That is like eating strychnine with a tall glass of arsenic!
