He got played. I could get a dog for less than $100 that can do what he described. Why brag about stupidly overpaying someone for a dog?

oh i agree--but in the old days, they got away with it by being more of a travelling show, i thought; it just strikes me as signifying when a nation that considers (considered) itself prosperous would even entertain these guys. They struck me as such, especially compared to other countries, which don't have them, at least to my recollection.

Re: $16,000 Dog

I remember hearing of a pastor paying a lot of money for a good desk for the office because it was high quality. It would last long and not fall apart.

I learned later on that this was pretty much true for a lot of things. You get what you pay for...

But a 16k dog isn't gonna last any longer than a 100 dollar dog

Re: $16,000 Dog

you know, we point at these guys, and mutter, me included; but what about the inventory of Solomon? Now that is OT, and i'm still frequently perplexed by some of the stories there--like, how to take them...was that inventory to show how much Solomon was blessed, or to show where his interests lie? I don't recall many 'qualifying' verses in those passages; multitudes of the nation starving or whatever...um, i guess all that wealth was taken from the kingdom...hmm. I also don't recollect any verses about him doing anything constructive for the public with the treasure?

There are passing references in Ecclesiastes, if Solomon was its author, about how he spent his wealth.
