Fasting..... Do you.........

Hello Everyone,

Out of curiosity, I have a question for you all.

Usually when I fast, I fast for a 24 hour period and only drink water.

I realize there are some that don't even drink water, but I do.

However, I've been fighting this congestion and decided to go on a fast today.

However, I took some Emergenci-C Immune Plus with Vitamin D Dietary Supplement.

I kinda feel convicted that I broke my fast even though I haven't eaten anything.

Any input?

Re: Fasting..... Do you.........

There are degrees one can fast. You are offering yourself as a sacrifice. God does not set "exactness" for fasting. I drink water with a little juice. I took a mint the other day when fasting because of my breath. I was wondering if that was ok.

The next time I went to Church the Pastor taught on fasting. He mentioned he was going to be talking to someone in a fast so he took a mint!

Daniel fasted by eating no pleasurable food. He did this 21 days and God honored it greatly. We can set the days we want to fast also.

Now there may be rare occasions when God DOES lead in very specific ways of fasting. He has not done so with me....that I was aware of.

I think its great that you have a conscious. If it goes against your conscious maybe fast an extra day or few hours or another meal. Its awesome that things still bother peoples conscious.

It’s really up to you according to your conviction. I don’t see anything wrong with taking the vitamin C but that between you and Jesus.

1. Take it as a learning experience. Fasting is a type of exercise. Sometimes you fail, which simply gives you insight into your strength level, and gives you something to work on next time. God isn't going to write you off as a loser unless you just give up altogether. He's training you, not trying to get rid of you or find reasons to be disappointed in you.

2. Fasting can range from something simple like skipping a coke for lunch one time all the way to no food or drink at all for several days. You set the parameters. The point isn't really abstention from food or drink but exercising control over the body and living by reason and volition rather than by impulse and appetite.

3. Only one fast was ever universally commanded, the Day of Atonement, and even then the specifics were never detailed, just that each person was to fast. Again, you do what you and God agree to do. Which leads to the last point:

4. PRAY. Fasting goes hand in hand with prayer. It should be decided on in prayer, maintained with prayer, and concluded with prayer. It's between you and God, not others, so their expectations and opinions are largely irrelevant. What matters is God's opinion, and that requires prayer in order for you to truly know what His opinion is.
