Sitting the bench

Should true ministers really ever "retire?"

Do we see our championed Apostles dump their calling in favor of a side seat?

To what extent has this effected our movement?

Sitting the Bench??? Now retire preachers are just a piece of rotting wood?

Perhaps some are sitting on the bench ... but I believe most are taking it easy, and deservedly so, while still ministering when needed

True ministers never retire. True ministers would never dump their calling and settle for a side seat. Because the majority of pastors and ministers are now in the baby boomer generation, we cannot answer this question within 10-15 years from now as to how it effects the movement.

We have a brother in our church, well he actually goes between churches. He married his current wife here, who was my former pastors wife before he passed away.

He no longer pastors and is most certainly where most pastors retire. Yet he continues to speak for us as well as travel to other engagements. He just recently finished his latest book on prayer too.

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

I dont' see anything wrong with a pastor or evangelist retiring from full time ministry. They can certainly still go out some and preach every now and then if they want, but I don't think they should have to work until they die.

Not sure about present day, but many of the championed Apostles from the Bible were killed. They weren't given an opportunity to retire or not.

I agree with part of the statement here. They never stop ministering. However, they do stop Pastoring.

Is it really the opinion of most that it's wrong for a Pastor to retire? If so, how many are Pastors themselves, or are willing to work themselves and never retire?

Dumb.

My father Pastored for well over 30+ years and retired as a Pastor a few years ago. He still ministers and helps in the church, but he's retired from Pastoring.
