State Sponsored Retiree Insurance

My parents just found out (literally months from retirement) that the company my dad works for is not going to have the promised insurance available for the retirees that had been promised.

Does anybody know how we could review, state by state, what each state has available as far as State sponsored retiree insurance plans?

Or do you at least know about your state?

Thanks for sharing any info you might have.

Try this site:

http://www2.cdc.gov/nccdphp/brfss2/p...ions/index.asp

http://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/states/

Probably not the best sites. I will research this more, if I have time.

State sponsored retiree insurance plans? Brother, I was an insurance agent for several years and have never heard of this. There are state sponsored insurance plans but they are for the indigent. How old is your father? If he is 65 Medicare will cover him, but he should buy a good supplement. Otherwise, he will have to purchase individual health insurance.

Well it differs from state to state.

Some states will have it and some states won't.

Here is a small article on it.

My dad will be 62 when he had planned on retiring and he called me and asked that I see what I could find out about different states who offer such insurances and what the plan was etc.

I know in Texas they have CHIPs for kids and in Louisiana as well.

Some states have similar programs for the elderly/retired who are not yet at the right age for medicare.

The first on is Behavioral issues and won't help much but the second one is on diabetes care that is the main reason my dad is so adamant that he be able to afford insurance in the interim because my mom has diabetes.

I will look into the site more. thanks so much.
