Joel & LaBreeska Hemphill & The "One God" Message
Joel and LaBreeska Hemphill were well-known southern gospel singers. They traveled this great nation for decades.
While browsing through YouTube one day, I came across the below-linked video. The video is LaBreeska Hemphill's testimony of receiving the revelation of the "One God" message. Naturally, when I saw this video, I was thinking that LaBreeska was going to talk about her seeing the Oneness of God.
But that's not what she's talking about here. Apparently, the Hemphills were once Oneness Pentecostals. I read somewhere that they fellowshipped with ALJC churches and even some UPC churches.
They left the Oneness message years ago it seems. What LaBreeska is talking about here is something like a "Twoness" message. She says there is only one God, and that Jesus, who is the Christ, is not God. Don't recall her mentioning the Holy Ghost whatsoever in this specific video.
It's a little head-scratching. I cannot seem to wrap my mind around it, which isn't a shocker because it's false doctrine.
Your thoughts ladies and gents?

I personally discussed this with their daughter. While stressing her love for her parents and not desiring to defame them, she stated that what her parents are currently teaching is false doctrine and that she is completely opposed to it.

Wow. I don't know their daughter (I don't think anyway), but that's got to be a hard pill for her to swallow. She loves her parents, naturally, but most people try to "fit" their loved ones into Biblical salvation.
I know many an Apostolic that believe their loved ones that have gone on are saved even without certain fundamentals. Now, these people are in the hands of a just God, so I won't toot that horn, but I know what the Bible says.

Re: Joel & LaBreeska Hemphill & The "One God" Mess
I'm wondering (and I don't know) if she's arguing against the tendency to deify the sonship into something it wasn't? Perhaps crudely defined?
I'd have to hear more. It sounds like her child has concerns, so they might be valid.

There are more clips of them discussing the "One God" message on YouTube. I haven't personally watched any of them, but they're there.

Re: Joel & LaBreeska Hemphill & The "One God" Mess
They embraced what is called Biblical Unitarianism (as opposed to Universal Unitarianism).
Very much not a Twoness or Binitarian view, except to say for them there is One God, the Father, and then there is the human man, (and only human, not divine in any way), Jesus of Nazareth. So, two in the sense of two different beings, but not two divine beings, or two beings with a shared divinity or deity/Godhead, which would be Twoness or Binitarianism.

And her funeral was apparently held at Living Way Apostolic Church.

That clears it up some. I was a little confused by the video I linked because LaBreeska Hemphill isn't very clear with she has "seen".

Very well articulated!!
Let us always be careful not to slap the label "Unitarian" on those who are not.
