After being offered an invitation to join the NAACP, klansman and white supremacist John Abarr accepted.

However, the black person who invited John Abarr to join the NAACP, Abarr did not offer Jerry Simmons an invitation to join the klan.

This meeting was instigated by Jerry Simmons of the NAACP in response to the hateful lliterature being distributed in Gillette, Wyo., about 130 miles north of Casper, and reported beatings of black men out in public with white women.

The original klan, during the Reconstruction era after the War between the States, actually offered protection to blacks who were being harassed by carpetbaggers because they were not falling in line. But later, the klan started becoming purely a racial organization and Nathan Bedford Forest denounced it. Forest actually had klansmen hung for terrorizing blacks. He also became a champion of racial equality and was invited to speak at civil rights conventions. But he gets credit for none of this and the NAACP tries to get anything with his name on it removed.

When I was 15 I went to the USA to visit a cousin in Florida. It happened that a Klan Rally was taking place at one of the Arenas in that town so me, her and some other friends decided to see what would happen if we tried to get in.....lol We drove to the entrance where 2 men stood with white hoods and shotguns. When asked could we go in.....they said we don't allow ni***rs, .... LEAVE! I cant say what my cousin (the driver) said back to them but it was hilarious !!! We still laugh over this episode all these years later.
