What is salvation?

His NAME is Jesus!

Salvation is: holy men chosen of God, sent to preach repentance and to draw
all men to the Lord Jesus;
(Lk. 24:47; 2 Pet 1:20-21)

Salvation is: feeling the conviction of the Lord's divine calling unto a godly
repentance;
(Matt 3:5; Acts 2:37)

Salvation is: believing and submitting unto the waters of baptism "...in the NAME
of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins..."
;
(Lk 7:29; Acts 2:38)

Salvation is: receiving the PROMISE of the Father (which is his Holy Spirit) and
being filled with Eternal Life, as evidenced by the believer's tongue being governed
by the Holy Spirit, speaking in other tongues "...as the Spirit gave utterance...";
(Acts 2:4; 10: 45-487; 19:1-6; James 3:2-8)

Salvation is: being led by the Spirit of the Lord unto a Holy Way, and submitting
all things to the obedience of Jesus Christ;
(Isa 35:8; Rom 8:14; 2 Cor 10:6)

I would suggest that the above is not salvation, per se, but rather are the mechanics through which salvation is achieved and maintained.

I define salvation simply as: deliverance from sin and its effects.

Re: What is salvation?

Umm . . . actually, I would agree with Votivesoul here.

When I first read the OP, I was thinking something similarly along the lines of, Well . . . all of these things are part of the Salvation experience. Then I read Votivesoul's response . . . simple, eloquent . . . and everything I had ever heard and been taught before flooded back like a wave. And I said to myself . . . DUH!

Peace

That's what it's meant to be
"I have not called the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

I have noticed that apostolics are not the only ones who post here: and some
"apostolics" come here with different doctrinal baggage. What I believe (and
have written) are just the very basics of the gospel that saves...and I always
expect my writing to be analyzed: it's just something big brothers do to their
younger siblings!

Amen.

But I would like to build on that, just a little.

Salvation is deliverance from sin and its effects as one is conformed into the image and likeness of Jesus through partaking in the divine nature. The final state being a glorified state wherein one partakes in the fullness of the divine nature that God might be all in all.

Re: What is salvation?

Not detracting from anyone's personal take:

One is saved by the gospel that saves (because denominations each have their
own, or seem to have their own, peculiar gospel); however, no one can be saved
outside of the gospel that the Apostle Paul preached to the Gentiles...even the
one gospel that the Apostle Peter preached to the Jews. It is the same gospel
taught by the Lord Jesus. What KEEPS us (the Church) saved is sound doctrine.

You (speaking to the denominations) might have sound doctrine, and may now
follow it: but if you do, it will eventually lead you to the gospel that saves; listen,
therefore, to what the Lord spoke by the prophet: "...choose therefore life, that
you and your SEED may live."
Remember, the life of "...the Lamb of God that takes
away the sin of the world..."
has already been shed: even the life of the body of the
man, Christ Jesus. He has now left us a NAME that testifies of both his power and
authority: for all power and authority is in his NAME!

As for those who believe and obey the gospel that saves, you NEED to make a clear
distinction between it and sound doctrine, that they who hear might also come to
believe and obey, and not be confused by rhetoric.

Re: What is salvation?

Salvation accomplished, according to scripture: Faith in the work of Jesus at Calvary.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Romans 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

I would take issue with Rom 10. It was written to the Jews who already had
the Word; that is, those who believed. Pauk isd admonishinmg them to

I would take issue with Rom 10. It was written to the Jews who already had
the Word; that is, the Old Testament. Paul is admonishing them to RETURN to
the Lord, saying: "The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart:
that is, the word of faith, which we preach...".

In other words, Paul is saying that he was preaching the word of faith exhibited
by the patriarch, Abraham, in the context of our time!
