The official skiing thread

Since there is no sport greater than skiing. I thought that we would start a skiing thread here at Aff.

Here you can post all your skiing pics

Ask questions of the experts (me ) on any of the following subjects
  • Gear
  • Technique
  • Clothing

Find out the best places to ski.

Or just generally reminis about great ski days you have had.

I will be posting some pics in a few moments

Here is one that I took and uploaded to a website that publishes snow forcast information.

It is from my vacation in late December.

Thats a great pic!

I like to do a little downhill skiing but I don't do it often so I'm barely past the beginner level. But I still have fun and thats what counts!

I'm in the market for a used set of skiis, boots and poles. Renting is expensive.

Ebay is a great place to find a set of ski's but just make sure that you don't get something that is really to old.

Dynastar makes a series of gear that is "ladies exclusive". Most women I have talked to have really gotten good use out of them. The "exclusive" series has everything from "Big Fats" for serious back country, "Twin tips" for the New school crowd in the park and pipe and great carver for the novice/intermediate.

Here is a link to a great set of skis for a beginer

I recommend new boots, properly fitted. Skis and poles are fine used.

Agreed,

Properly fitted boots will make all the difference in the world. Find a real bootfitter. A guy with a ring in his lip who wants to sell you whatever there is a spiff on right now will waste your time and your money. This is usually what you find at the big box stores. The small shop not at a resort is usually your best bet. I say not a resort because you are just paying a premium at a resort. If, when you start asking about his orthotic training, he looks at you and says "dude, just torque 'em down and ride man" find another shop. If he can't tell you how to adjust the cant without consulting the manual you are in the wrong shop also.

She has a couple of times but doesn't really like it all that much. She doesn't really like the cold. I do know many pentecostal women who do ski though and some who quite good.
