Mine was free, which means it was either public domain or the owners licensed it for free

You are already so studious.I imagine that if you sharpen that sword some more hell is going to have to give up the souls it has bound in your part of the work of God.

Although a bit dated, the book is excellent, and remains one of the very best introductions to the superiority of the Received Text and the AV and the deficient concepts that led to the modern versions.

In fact, the book really emphasizes the conceptual error in the modern textual criticism. As such, it is way ahead of many writings on the topic, on both sides of the issue.

And I read it many years ago, and then repurchased it recently for review.

While Daniel Segraves position may have become a little weaker than when he wrote the book, that is neither here nor there.

Yours in Jesus,

By the way, if anyone is looking for a great English translation in more modern English - you might try the ESV (English Standard Version). It seems to retain the granduer of the KJV, is highly readable, and seems to be faithfully translated from texts the KJV only crowd would still favour. I still preach primarily from the KJV but refer to the ESV often.
The big issue between the Majority Text ( KJV, NKJV, WEB) Family and the Alexandrian (NIV type) is in the texts more than the translation. Several key verses that concern the Oneness message are at the forefront of the controversy.

Re: Dr.Daniel Segraves book The Search for the Wor

I read the book when it first came out. It was the first book on the text of the NT that I had ever read.

It had a format that was not easy to follow.

Dr. Segraves has changed his views since then, as have I.

Since not many copies of the first edition were not made, and there was only one edition, I am surprised that there are any still in circulation.

Bruce Metzger wrote a far easier book to read called the Text of the NT. that would be the one I would recommend.

Dr. Segraves was my favorite college teacher.

Not in defense of the AV. Segraves remains, afaik, a supporter of the Received Text and uses the AV and NKJV. The problem is that they have at times very different, even opposite, translational meanings.

In that situation it is pretty much impossible for anyone to hold an English Bible in their hand and believe they have the pure and perfect word of God.

Some of my friends studied under him, and learned about the excellence of the AV from his teaching. His efforts should be respected. However, his AV support is significantly lessened. I could check with my friends and ask how they view the newer position in relation to the older.

Steven
