Justification = Salvation

In another thread several weeks ago, it was asserted that justification is not the same thing as salvation; that is, one can be justified but still not saved, that justification basically is a new standing with God (not guilty) that allows one to then go on to receive the forgiveness of sins at baptism and to be regenerated at the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

It seems that Rom 10.9-10 will not allow this interpretation. In this passage justification and salvation appear to be parallel ideas--they are one and the same.

9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

If you believe that justification and salvation do not occur at the same time, what passages do you use to support that view? If you think they do occur at the same time, what other passages do you think best articulate that view?

Re: Justification = Salvation

Justification does not equal salvation, because Salvation is a process of walking after the Spirit and being led by the Spirit. (Romans 8)

justification happens at repentance/baptism, salvation is a lifestyle of being filled with the Holy Ghost and led of the Spirit.

Thank you for the reply. I agree that salvation is a lifestyle. In this post I'm focusing on that initial moment of being justified and saved. Are they one and the same? Can someone be justified but still not saved as some maintain?

Re: Justification = Salvation

Abraham believed God and it was accounted to Him as righteousness, continued right standing was conditioned upon his obedience, actions and choices.

Re: Justification = Salvation

We are justified by faith. Not by works. Not by baptism. Only by faith.

Justification=salvation.

Just to clarify, again focusing just on the initial moment someone is justified and not on the ongoing need to continue in faith, I understand you to mean that the moment they are justified they are also saved. So, again, just focusing on the initial moment, you do believe that to be justified is to be saved in that limited sense, correct?

EB, I think I know what you believe based on other posts, but to double check, for you justification = salvation, and someone is not justified, i.e., saved, till they have been baptized in Jesus' name and baptized with the Holy Spirit. Is this correct?
