70 years Sabbath rest

Any insight into the significance of 70 years of captivity and Sabbath rest for the land?

2 Chronicles 36:21
King James Version
21 To fulfil the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.

It started when Josiah got involved with a fight with a foreign king who was under direct commandment of God to attack someone else...foreign king told him to back off that he was obeying God and his fight wasnt with Josiah...Josiah unwisely disguised himself and attacked and was wounded unto death...and thus started the avalanche of kings that did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord which God judged by sending conquering nations to take over and carry people into captivity.

Josiah was significant because he kept the Sabbath in a way that was never done before or since...and with the land being taken over and the people being taken into captivity the land lay fallow...unused....it rested due to inactivity.

Re: 70 years Sabbath rest

I googled the significance of 70 in the bible:

The Meaning of Numbers: The Number 70
Seventy has a sacred meaning in the Bible that is made up of the factors of two perfect numbers, seven (representing perfection) and ten (representing completeness and God's law). As such, it symbolizes perfect spiritual order carried out with all power. It can also represent a period of judgment.

Seventy (70) elders were appointed by Moses (Numbers 11:16). After reading the covenant God gave him to read to the people, Moses took 70 elders, along with Aaron and his sons, up Mount Sinai to have a special meal with God himself (Exodus 24:9 - 11)!

Ancient Israel spent a total number of 70 years in captivity in Babylon (Jeremiah 29:10). Seventy is also specially connected with Jerusalem. The city kept 70 years of Sabbaths while Judah was in Babylonian captivity (Jeremiah 25:11). Seventy sevens (490 years) were determined upon Jerusalem for it to complete its transgressions, to make an end for sins and for everlasting righteousness to enter into it (Daniel 9:24).

Jesus answering the question from Peter on how many times to forgive your brother....

Matthew 18:22 KJVS
[22] Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

70X7 or "Peter...you cant count that high"

See, the leaven of the Pharisees were always looking for the catch, the fine print to exploit and "legally" be ok with justifying their sin.

Jesus was basically telling Peter to stop saving up forgiveness tokens and that no matter how many he'd save up, hed never collect enough to justify unforgiveness.

Re: 70 years Sabbath rest

Is there a connection between the answer Jesus gave with respect to forgiveness
and the time period of the Babaloynian captivity?

No apologies needed. Thanks for your comments.
I'm looking for clues as to why God chose 70 weeks of captivity.

We are to forgive 70 *7.
God chose to exile them 70*7.

Maybe there is some reasoning there, maybe not.
