I enjoyed it thoroughly. The fight scene in the shadows was pretty cool.
***Spoiler Alert***
I went to see this with a friend who is strict KJV only. Towards the end, when it was revealed that he was carrying the KJV, my friend nudged me and said, "See? Even they know it is the right one."
It was extremely humorous when the next shot showed them putting the NKJV version on the shelf. I chuckled, he did not. lol
Denzel was clearly quoting from the NKJV even though his character identified it as "the original King James" late in the film.
Denzel/Eli: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters."
That's NOT what "the original KJV said." But, it was a nice story with an interesting twist. Even knowing DM's "spoiler" from a couple posts back I think most folks will be somewhat surprised by some of the other twists.

Here's the way it reads in my 1611 KJV
1 In the beginning God created the Heauen and the Earth.
2 And the earth was without forme, and voyd; and darkenesse was vpon the face of the deepe. And the Spirit of God mooued vpon the face of the waters.

I think that was the point, that his version of it became the NKJV. It was too obvious and deliberate to have been a mistake.

What if the movie hadn't had a happy ending? Suppose the only remaining copy of the Bible had been destroyed, and suppose Denzel's character were killed before he could recite it, and it could not be reconstructed by others' memories? Suppose the world had lost the Bible forever?
What might have happened then? How might civilization "rebuild" without the Bible's help?

They would have created a new religion, based on whatever they remembered from the old one.
