yer an atheist and you don't deserve hell???????????? How'd you manage that one?
Agnostic. And no, nobody (not even you ) really deserves eternal torment for at most a few decades of "sin". Nobody. The most evil individuals in history deserve some punishment -- even a lot. But not infinite.
But your theology says every single person who ever lived has sinned. And it doesn't matter how bad those sins were. A lie = adultery. Cheating on income tax = bombing a shopping center. It all requires the same punishment. Eternal torment in flames.
Nope. Sorry. Not buying it.

BTW, there are many Christians who agree with me on this, and it's not just among those of the more liberal persuasion. There are AFFers who agree, and they've said so. It's really common sense. Yes, it is different from certain strict interpretations of the Bible, but you don't have to accept that interpretation! No, you don't. Nobody has to.
There are much better (yes, better) ways to read the Bible. Ways that don't lead to discouragement (when literally read promises aren't kept, e.g.), fear (when you can't possibly be sure if you know the right way to avoid that "deserved" punishment, e.g.), etc. You should try it. It's not that bad.

Depends on what eternal actually means. I'm not certain that people will actually be in hell for an eternal (forever type) trip or not. I've heard good arguments from both sides so I really don't know. Neither do I intend to find out, the best I can do is live for God while I am here on earth.
I do know the bible says that we all have sinned and come short of His glory, that was why I said we all deserve hell.
Thought I'd have a look at this post. Got curious.
Apologize? Well, I guess you could, if you're so inclined. But I doubt you would rescind much, if any, of the stuff you've posted. You may be wondering what I am referring to, so I'll inform you: what you have said about my brother really rubbed me the wrong way. One might think I'd have a thick skin, lasting as long as I have in a place where most of the folks think I'll end up in a DESERVED (lol) eternal punishment. Torment forever. Deserved.
And others have said things about my brother, and the prayers that pleaded with God to heal him. But you took it a huge step further. Too far for me. You said (paraphrasing from memory) that he is better off, and that God wanted him to die. It was better that he die than live.
You are entitled to your opinion, of course. But you're wrong. And I didn't want to read such nonsense anymore.
And then there were the rather frustrating discussions we've had, e.g. about testing spirits in your mind. The challenge, acceptance, and rejection of the result by you. (Whatever I say will happen. It didn't happen. Remember that one?)
Well then, I do apologize. My intention was to make you feel better where your brother was concerned, not worse. Prolly better to say nothing there, I guess, other than I"m sorry for your loss.

What you posted didn't change my feelings about losing my brother. Not a bit, either way. Why would it? It was absurd. It just peeved me, that's all. And made me wonder why I was here.

Yep. That would be best.
Thanks.
