I couldn't bring myself to driving to TB and spendling like $4 in gas, just for a taco. But my wife picked one up for me on her way home! Isn't she awesome?

Re: ★ Houston's Hangout ★

I took communion and received ashes at a Lutheran church. I haven't taken communion in a few years. It has been over a decade since the last time I was in an Ash Wednesday service.

I am not sure why I participated this year. Liturgical churches were something that put me off. They are supposed to be dry and boring.

I have changed. I no longer recognize myself. I know that I am on a journey. Many would say that I am going backward. I don't think that is the case. Maybe I am going forward in a circle.

I left the Ash Wednesday service feeling humble and broken. For that I am grateful.

Today's Lent Devotional

Today’s Prayer

Almighty God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan; Come quickly to help us who are assaulted by many temptations; and, as you know the weaknesses of each of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. — Book of Common Prayer

Today’s Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 3:18-22

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits— to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand—with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.

Today’s Quote

The Lord, though he was God, became man. He suffered for the sake of those who suffer, he was bound for those in bonds, condemned for the guilty, buried for those who lie in the grave; but he rose from the dead, and cried aloud:

"Who will contend with me? Let him confront me. I have freed the condemned, brought the dead back to life, raised men from their graves. Who has anything to say against me? I," he said, "am the Christ; I have destroyed death, triumphed over the enemy, trampled hell underfoot, bound the strong one, and taken men up to the heights of heaven: I am the Christ."

"Come, then, all you nations of men, receive forgiveness for the sins that defile you. I am your forgiveness. I am the Passover that brings salvation. I am the lamb who was immolated for you. I am your ransom, your life, your resurrection, your light, I am your salvation and your king. I will bring you to the heights of heaven. With my own right hand I will raise you up, and I will show you the eternal Father." — Melito of Sardis, 2nd century church father

Houston, does it really matter what some think about your walk with Christ?

I've not met many who lose sleep over another person's walk.

At the end of our lives, the only person we really want to connect with is Christ. Sometimes I wonder if we walk backwards to review some particular event and reexperience it in order to once again move forwards...and move forwards with a new meaning and understanding of God. New convictions we want to learn to live by contained within the books of the bible, coming from our own spiritual walk...and not from by-laws or to obtain social acceptance.

Kewl. I think I could relate to that to a degree. While I would not fully agree with liturgical worship I can still worship that way and be sincere.
(I could say the same thing about some shockamoo services I have attended)

Re: ★ Houston's Hangout ★

It was coined here at AFF!

Shockamoo - (noun) This is a term coined by Thad to describe the demonstrative worship that has been one of the hallmarks of Oneness Pentecost. It includes, but is not limited to, dancing, running the aisles, leaping for joy, rolling on the floor, and various other exuberant expressions of praise. This is a kind of worship that is vigorously objected to by CC1 and other backsliders.
