Your tithes were already paid.
Quote:
9 And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.
10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him. (Heb. 7:9-10)
|
Quote:
26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.(Galatians 3)

We as priests and Abraham's seed, like Levi, have already paid tithes in Abraham.
Unlike Levi, we as New Testament priests do not receive tithes.
Pro New Testament tithing argument thus rebutted.

Question:
The Levites received tithes from the people under the Law; Abraham was not a
Levite, and did not RECEIVE tithes...why, then, did Abraham GIVE tithes to
Melchisedec, who was NOT a Levite!
Question:
If Abraham gave tithes for us, why did Jacob offer tithes?
His NAME is Jesus!

Jacob didn't offer tithes to Melchizidek, however. Nor were he or Abraham commanded by God to tithe to anyone, nor did either one of them do it again in recorded scripture. Why wasn't Jacob tithing all along?
So you see, there is absolutely NOTHING substantive here to build a doctrine for compulsory tithing of 10% of one's gross income in the New Testament church?

Who is saying that Abraham and Jacob were COMPELLED to offer tithes?
Neither can, nor should, anyone be compelled NOT to offer tithes. Those who
are of Abraham will do as Abraham; even as the Father was not compelled to
love us...yet He did!

Re: Your tithes were already paid.
You go ahead and live how you want. Where a man's treasure is that is where his heart will be. I gladly tithe and will continue to, not because I have to, but because I want to. I believe tithing is a principle, not a law, and it worked before the law, during the law, and after the law. I am happy to give God what is already His.
Why would you want to waste your energy trying to convince people NOT to give???

You really should be ashamed, especially when you are acting no better than that friend who tried to ambush you. Refuting a false doctrine on tithing does NOT constitute " trying to convince people not to GIVE". You are bearing false witness claiming I am encouraging people not to give.
What I am trying to do is convince preachers to repent of horrible hermeneutics.
There is no "principle" of tithing anywhere in scripture. The is only the LAW of tithing (the only time God ever required it) of certain things (increase in agricultural assets) produced in a certain land (the promised land) , by certain people (farmers), for specific purposes that have no relevance in the church. There is no other claim by God at any other time to any other people that he claimed 10% of anything as his. One cannot say they teach tithing as a principle and not a law when they say they are giving God something that already belonged to him or was required by him to be set apart for a specific purpose. To hold back that part would indeed be breaking a law if indeed God had claimed it for himself. Thus you are indeed teaching tithing as a law despite claims to the contrary.

I assemble with the Body of Christ in corporate worship regularly. I do not subscribe to the system commonly labeled as "church". But what philosophy on corporate worship I subscribe to is irrelevant to the points raised in the previous post. The tithing doctrine you teach must stand or fall on its own merits. Either it withstands the scrutiny of scriptural interpretation or it does not.

Are you aware that not everyone tithed?
Also, worked after the law?? When?
If I don't tithe therefore my heart is about money?
