I can't speak regarding the trips, but salespeople can write off business lunches on their taxes. It could just be as simple as that, and not them trying to influence you.

Quid pro quo is as old as the hills, and is a perfectly reasonable activity provided everything is transparent and upfront and no perversion of justice is being sought.

If I supported a cause, and some bank likewise supported that cause, it is only reasonable that I consider doing my personal business with that bank (assuming I do my due diligence of course).

A credit union sponsoring a denominational banquet is likely due to either a) a ranking decision maker at the credit union is a member or supporter of the denomination and is using his/her position to support that denomination, or b) the decision maker(s) at the credit union are looking to secure additional business from a Christian denomination's members or the organisation itself because that aligns with the credit union's overall vision and mission (supporting and serving Christian customers).

Problems arise however when the expected quid pro quo interferes with the recipient's decision making (aka genuine "undue influence").

I can't recall the person's name, but on a clip of a podcast I heard, the person said that they talked to truckers who travel across the country and they verified that Trump lawn signs were 75/25 in Trump's favor. He said it will be a "lawn slide". LOL!
