Christian apologetics

I have children still under my roof. 3 of which are teens.

I thought about having them read some of these books, to aid in defense of their biblical based faith, in case they would need to defend themselves when ask questions like, why do you believe in this book called the holy Bible, and how is it any different than any other book. Why do you follow this one called Jesus… how do you know he even lived let alone resurrected? As a couple of examples…

Here are a few I have found:

1 The case for Christ (Lee Strobel)

2 Evidence that demands a verdict

3 More than a carpenter(McDowell)

4 Mere Christianity (CS LEWIS)

5 Reasonable Faith: Christian Truth and Apologetics

6 The Reason for God: belief in an age of skepticism)

We are studying the Bible as well, right now going through Acts, currently in Acts 7….but I want to put some armor on these guys in the way of defending their faith when they get out and inner tangle more with this wicked world, through entering adulthood.

Has anybody read any of these books?
Other books?
Any thoughts or ideas on the subject?

I do like to challenge them….try to sort of set them up to fail a little w some hard questions, within reason so not too hard. I must help them prepare, just in case…

The enemy does have an agenda

(I realize being full of the Holy Ghost is top priority, but I think you understand what I’m getting at)

I've read The Case For Christ. It's a pretty good book. But I think THIS is probably the best read on the subject:

Re: Christian apologetics

Shag,

I have read Mere Christianity, it’s been many years ago. I think that it is a book that came about when C. S. Lewis (who was an atheist) set out to prove atheism and it backfired on him. He’s a good author.

If you are asking for advice however, I would recommend teaching your children to discern truth from lies. And not necessarily that whatever version of Christianity that they happen to believe is truth, just because they believe it .
One of the best things that ever happened to me is being invited to a bible study by a Methodist. I learned that just because they are Methodist (or Baptist, or whatever) doesn’t mean they are necessarily wrong. And that just because a doctrine is “Apostolic” doesn’t mean it is necessarily right.

The best book to study is the Bible of course. And pray earnestly for knowledge, understanding and wisdom. God will answer your prayers.
