History of Tithes in the Church

This book is very interesting. It is from 1894, by By Henry William Clarke :

The Preface is quite entertaining. The Introduction is priceless. Enjoy.

Interesting:

Quote from page 71, last complete paragraph:

The nature of the sanction of tithes is obvious; it is the old, unjustifiable application of the Jewish practice, which fraud or ignorance had made general current in Europe.”

It seems that the more things change, the more they remain the same.

Re: History of Tithes in the Church

It is definitely a tradition of men backed with very bad hermeneutics to just prove the point. I hope our brethren that teach tithing get their eyes opens and have the courage to embrace the truth, and be faithful to the word of God.

It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it - Sinclair.

Re: History of Tithes in the Church

I have used the following book regarding tithing. It compares the 4 major views on tithing and gives the "best" argument for each view. Each view is written by a major proponent of the view they advocate. Seeing the views essentially side-by-side was definitely helpful for me in determining my view on this subject. In my opinion, one of the 4 really jumps out as being the clear and obvious winner.

Anyone else used this book?

Re: History of Tithes in the Church

I have a great book about tithing. It’s called “ Holy Bible “ KJV version. The main author is Jesus himself but he has a bunch of different men discuss the necessity of tithing.

The Apostles didn’t come to the same conclusion as you, apparently.

The only time Jesus discussed tithing was to the Jews that were under the Law of Moses.

I would not try. If folks enjoy something, then they should not stop.
