Dr. Leonard Scott

Is Dr. (or, as is now known, Bishop) Leonard Scott Oneness Pentecostal? Or ever was?

I came across a CD by him from a Oneness Pentecostal ministry back in the 90s, which suggests he was.

But currently online I find he's the pastor of a trinitarian church. Was he ever UPC or another Oneness organization in the past?

Isn't he dead?

  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.

Re: Dr. Leonard Scott

He pastors the Rock Community Church in Indianapolis, right? That church is Apostolic.

Bishop Leonard Scott has PAW roots.

The text below is quoted from another social media site.

Throwback Thursday - Tyscot Records

Tyscot Records is the oldest African-American owned and operated gospel music recording label in the nation. It was founded by two sons of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW) as a means to record their local church choir. Today, Tyscot stands as a respected music label with a legacy of recording renowned gospel artists.

Based in Indianapolis, Tyscot began in 1976 when musician Craig Tyson and local dentist Leonard Scott sought to record the Christ Church Apostolic Radio Choir. At the time, Tyson's father (Bishop James Tyson) pastored Christ Church and both of the label's principals were choir members. Bishop Tyson later became Assistant Presiding Bishop of the PAW.

The label's name came from Dr. Scott's attorney, who advised him to protect their assets from song theft. When asked about a preferred name for the corporation, the attorney suggested putting the partners' names together -- "Ty" from Tyson and "Scot" from Scott.

The late Craig Tyson was an extraordinary musician and choir clinician, who burst onto the national scene as a child prodigy, during his early years at Mt. Calvary Apostolic Church in Youngstown (OH). Tyson became legendary as the lead organist for the PAW National Convention Choir for many years under Bishop Charles Watkins, Bishop William Abney, Arnold Wagner, and others. Over the years, his musical stylings have been favorably compared to the Church of God in Christ's renowned Billy Preston on the Hammond organ.

Leonard Scott, DDS was a successful dentist and businessman in Indianapolis, who had played saxophone and flute in a R&B band prior to being saved at the PAW's "mother church," Christ Temple. Following a shut-in and fast, he picked up music again and engaged Tyson for a recording called "With These Hands." Scott fused that renewed passion with a multi-faceted ministry that manifested as a recording artist, producer, and label owner. Additionally, Suffragan Bishop Scott now pastors Rock Community Church in Indianapolis.

The Christ Church Apostolic Radio Choir album, "Feel Good," became Tyscot's first project. Soon other groups and choirs approached Tyscot, and Truth and Devotion, a quartet from Anderson (IN), became the second group on the label.

Tyscot's third group was The Pentecostal Ambassadors; featuring Remus Wright, Tommy Hill, and Donald Golder. Golder is now a Suffragan Bishop in the PAW and serves as the organization's Assistant General Secretary. Wright now pastors one of the largest churches in Houston and Hill pastors a significant church in Indianapolis.

The Ambassadors became a national gospel music sensation, particularly in Pentecostal circles. During their heyday, a young songwriter who attended Grace Apostolic Church in Indy and came to several Ambassadors rehearsals, offered some of his early compositions to the group. That young man's name was Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds.

In 1988, Scott's son Bryant was hired as the label's General Manager and Tyscot Records experienced growth and success. One catalyst was a new artist named John P. Kee and the New Life Choir. Kee's "We Walk By Faith" produced Tyscot's first Billboard number one album in 1992.

After surviving the bankruptcy of Spectra, Tyscot's distributor in 1993, the label was blessed to retain all of its existing artists as well as manufacturers that were willing to work with them based upon cash sales. As a result, John P. Kee again produced another Tyscot first with the CD "Not Guilty." It was the label's first Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) gold record, in 1999.

Over the years, Tyscot has produced numerous gospel artists, some of which have PAW roots:

* Peggy Lacey (PAW product)
* The Rance Allen Group
* Rodnie Bryant
* The Pentecostal Ambassadors (PAW product)
* John P. Kee
* Bishop Noel Jones & the City of Refuge Sanctuary Choir (PAW product)
* Rev. Bill Sawyer and the Christian Tabernacle Choir
* Deitrick Haddon and the Voices of Unity (PAW product)
* The Anointed Pace Sisters
* Vashawn Mitchell
* Bishop Larry Trotter & Sweet Holy Spirit
* Suffragan Bishop Leonard Scott - Tyscot Co-Founder (PAW product)
* Shirley Murdock
* Darwin Hobbs
* Lucinda Moore
* Carman
* Damita Haddon
* The Inner City Mass Choir
* Ann Nesby

In recent years, Tyscot has moved into theatrical film production with another son of the PAW, artist Deitrick Haddon and his movie "Blessed and Cursed."

Tyscot Record's first hymn project "We Sing Gospel's Greatest Hymns" features the late Bishop David Ellis, a past PAW Assistant Presiding Bishop. He was the very popular father of the PAW's current Presiding Bishop Charles H. Ellis III.

Today, Tyscot Records is a serious player in the gospel recording business and another proud part of the rich legacy of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World.

Re: Dr. Leonard Scott

When I look at the church website today, it seems they teach the Trinity.

Has he changed theology?
