"After my election I have more flexability..."
Below is a link to a CNN story about President Obama speaking to the Russian President privately, not realizing there was an open microphone.
This was regarding the NATO led missile defense system in Europe but shows the strategy the Obama White House is taking on actions / positions they know will be unpopular with Americans.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

What shocks me is that the story comes from CNN (although FOX ran it as well).

RW, I agree. That is the kind of thing that CNN and MSNBC usually bury or ignore.
The American people are so uninvolved politically for the most part I doubt this will get the attention it deserves from the general public.

I saw it on the news tonight on abc. As soon as I saw it, I said, "this will be discussed on AFF before the end of the day"

Personally I thought this was downright treasonous

Re: "After my election I have more flexability..."
I really wish that Obama would stop stepping on his tie.
I am sure that other Presidents have had similar conversations on other topics in the past-- those conversations just aren't broadcasted and usually happen in private.
Who wants to tell me that our country couldn't have been free from dependence on Middle East oil ten + years ago?

I rather liked GWB's off camera remark to Tony Blair. He sure wasn't going to cooperate with a rogue country. I'll let you Google that one.

No need.
I say again, that conversations like this happen all the time between leaders-- they just aren't broadcasted.

I think you are wrong. I think most Presidents would be smart enough not to say that publicly. They would use surrogates to send that message.
Obama's statement kind of makes it hard for him to deny that he is going to do some things unpopular with the American people in his second term when he no longer will be held accountable by another election.
Of course the seperation of powers will restrain him a lot but never the less a President has tremendous power and it is clear he will be exercising it to fulfill the liberal agenda in a way he has felt constrained not to do while facing re election.
