I recently saw a bumper sticker that most appropriately stated my position:
"God didn't put me at the top of the food chain to eat no vegetables."
Vegetarianism is not necessarily a healthy approach and often not.
I think it could be said that vegetarianism is a healthy alternative if it gets one away from to the heavily processed foods and industrially farmed animals we have in our society.
Then again there are the GM veggies out there. Not good.

Now see, I had you pegged as the vegetarian type! I could just see you in a head bangin Jam Session and taking a ten min break to down some tofu and soy milk.

LOL! ME TOO!
NOW is a walking contradiction... I think that is why I like the guy so much!

Seriously. In consideration of a vegan diet, does the above scripture give you any pause?
It would give me pause from commanding or being commanded to do so. This scripture is, in no way, a prohibition against abstaining from meats any more than it is a prohibition against living ones life unmarried. It is a prohibition against commanding others to do so.
I don't consider myself vegetarian, but I rarely eat meat. I have found that I feel so much better if I just stick to my veggies. It has nothing to do with scripture-just personal preference. Your body cannot digest meat like it does veggies-most of it sits in there and rots.

LOL - - means you can only have creatures of God at Thanksgiving - -

I am not sure that meats in that verse has the same thing in mind that you do. I believe that it just means abstain from food.
However, God commanded the Israelites to eat lamb at the passover, and the priests ate the meats offered as sacrifices.
LOL! yea there is that. I have also wondered if there is some connection with Paul’s long arguments related to sacrificed animals being eaten by gentile Christians.
either way, I do like to use it as my personal reason for eating meat!
I do think there is something valuable in the passage relating to the world we live in where you have militant vegans who have elevated animals to the same (or higher) status than humans. Kind of a “sign of the times” kind of thing.
