Love is the Way!!!

I am the way, the truth and the life. God is Love. I and the father are one. Love is the way, the truth and the life.

The purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart and faith unfeigned.

Re: Love is the Way!!!

Love is more than a feel-good emotion. It's action. A person who loves God keeps His commandments. Anyone who claims to love God but doesn't keep His commandments is a liar. Anyone who claims to have the love of God, but doesn't love his brother, is also a liar. Scripture is concise about what constitutes love and the Hollywood version doesn't really measure up. I think the modern world's misunderstanding of what truly comprises love is a one of the greatest tragedies of all time.

you keep saying "a person who loves God keeps his commandments" what commandments are you referring to? Jesus said if you love God and love your neighbor you have fulfilled the law. jesus also said how can a man say he loves God who he doesn't see if he can't love his neighbor who he does see. the point here is that to love neighbor is to love God. to abide in love, is to obey God and be righteous. what other kind of requirements are you talking about? not sure what kind of hollywood love you are talking about, but Brene Brown who has been promoted by Oprah says,

“We cultivate love when we allow our most vulnerable and powerful selves to be deeply seen and known, and when we honor the spiritual connection that grows from that offering with trust, respect, kindness and affection.

Love is not something we give or get; it is something that we nurture and grow, a connection that can only be cultivated between two people when it exists within each one of them – we can only love others as much as we love ourselves.

Shame, blame, disrespect, betrayal, and the withholding of affection damage the roots from which love grows. Love can only survive these injuries if they are acknowledged, healed and rare.”

is this the hollywood love you are talking about? I think brene brown has a better understanding of what love is than anything i've ever heard outside of the bible. the children of darkness are wiser than the children of light. closing yourself off from worldly wisdom is primitive.

Yes, if you love God, you keep His commandments, and if you love your neighbor, you will fulfill all the law, naturally. You can't flip flop, though. A man can love his neighbor (e.g., be kind to them, serve them, etc) and still NOT love God. There are atheists who try to be kind to others. Do they love God? Does loving your neighbor but NOT loving God still equate to "fulfilling the law?" Obviously not. It's a two-sided coin. You must love God AND love your neighbor, and scripture tells us clearly what those things mean in application.

I'm talking about the worldly version of "love" which involves mostly how people *feel* in any given situation about themselves or others. It's a false picture of love, and has nothing to do with the love mentioned in the Bible.

The children of darkness are wiser than the children of light? Is that scriptural?

Closing yourself off from godly wisdom is foolish, and being overly dependent on worldly wisdom is short-sighted. True wisdom comes from God.

II Corinthians 1:12 "Now this is our boast:Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, with integrity and godly sincerity. We have done so, relying not on worldly wisdom but on God’s grace."

Colossians 2:8 (NIV) "See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ."

1 John 2:10

King James Version (KJV)

10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

Matthew 25:40

King James Version (KJV)

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

to love neighbor is to love God. God is spirit. God is Life. In him we live and move and have our being. God is omnipresent. God knows our thoughts, hears our prayers and knows the meditation of our hearts. to love life, to love nature, to love creation is to love God. do you think god cares if you go to a church building to clap your hands and shout hallelujah, then go out pollute the air and water, hunt and kill animals for sport, ignore beggars, homeless people and "illegal" immigrants etc, which is more important to an omnipresent spirit of life?

Luke 16:8

King James Version (KJV)

8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

Re: Love is the Way!!!

The commandments of Jesus are simple...
1.) Love God with all your being.
2.) Demonstrate that love by loving others as yourself.
Every commandment given to ancient Israel and every moral law of God is based on these two fundamental principles by which we are to live as we walk in the Spirit. As a result... anything not done out of sincere and pure love misses the mark. Even religion and it's legalisms.

to love god with all of our being is to love life, to love creation, to love nature, to love humanity, to love animals. God is spirit. In him we live and move and have our being. so to express love for all of creation is to love God with all of our being. how would you define it?

I definitely believe that Christians should practice their religion, and not just talk about it. James 1:27 "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." I don't demean fellowship with other believers, since that was a major component of the New Testament church and I believe we should follow that model.

However, I object to the idea that you seem to be presenting, which is that if a person practices charity or good works, it automatically makes them one of God's children. It doesn't. Not according to scripture, anyway. I John 2 is the same passage that declares a person to be a liar if they claim to know God and don't keep His commandments. You can't pick part of the passage; you have to take all of it. Yes, we are to love people; we also have to love God--and keep His commandments. Otherwise, we can't say that we know Him. If we don't love people, we can't truthfully claim that the love of God is in us. Two-sided coin. You can't have one of them and be a complete Christian. Actually, without the God component, you aren't a Christian at all.

Ah, okay. You might want to read that in a different version for context. Here it is from the NIV: "“The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light."
