Jesus had mercy upon sinners. He didn't condone their sin. He even paid for their sins in full upon the cross. And today that atonement and propitiation is still available so that one might be justified by faith and receive the life changing power of the Holy Spirit.

What's sad is this article expresses the view of Jesus large numbers of professing christians have.

WWJD? Whatever it was He would get crucified for it by both Pharisees and Pagans.

I never read the point of this thread, but WWJD always reminds of the error so many have. They try to imitate Christ, when in reality Christ needs to live through us. HUGE difference.

Totally disagree. If more Christians tried to imitate Jesus instead of the Pharisees the world would be a better place

I would be curious how you see there being a difference there.

It's huge to me. It's like using human energy to try to make ourselves act like JESUS as opposed to believing in prayer for him inside us to supernaturally inspire us with power to do things that we could not normally do in human energy.

That is walking after the flesh when we urge ourselves in human strength to do good. The bible teaches to yield our bodies as instruments of his righteousness. That means he uses us in actual use. The goal is the same, but the means to that goal cannot work when we use fleshly power to imitate Jesus.

The bible teaches there's more than just the need to serve God. It's the method we use to serve Him that matters.

Rom 7:6    But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Ephesians 5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

STRONGS

Eph 5:1 Be G1096 ye therefore G3767 followers G3402 of God,G2316 as G5613 dear G27 children;G5043

μιμητής

mimētēs

mim-ay-tace'

From G3401; an imitator: - follower.

JFB

followers — Greek, “imitators” of God, in respect to “love” (Eph_5:2): God’s essential character (1Jo_4:16).

Clark

The word μιμηται, which we translate followers, signifies such as personate others, assuming their gait, mode of speech, accent, carriage, etc.; and it is from this Greek word that we have the word mimic.

Barnes

Be ye therefore followers of God - Greek, “Be imitators - μιμηταὶ mimētai - of God.” The idea is not that they were to be the friends of God, or numbered among his followers, but that they were to imitate him in the particular thing under consideration.
