Parsonage Allowance Unconstitutional?

"Regarding last Friday's ruling, Becket released a statement labeling Crabb's decision "a devastating blow" that "threatens churches across the country with nearly $1 billion in new taxes.""

Re: Parsonage Allowance Unconstitutional?

As a retired church treasurer, it would be easier for everyone involved if ministers were paid just as if they were any other employee.

I thought the income of "clergy" was tax-exempt, just like the churches they lead.

Clergy taxes are complex. The exemptions need rewriting.

I disagree with churches being tax exempt.
Just pay the taxes, God will take care of the finances.

Re: Parsonage Allowance Unconstitutional?

if churches use the "Render unto" to collect tithes and offerings they dont need to forget the first part about "render unto Ceasar what is Caesars " ....cant command one and ignore the other.

SP - not sure totally what you meant by this, but let me assure you all employees, in any business/corporation/charity are not paid the same.
The "higher" the position you have the more "perks" you get. And even in for-profit businesses some of these perks are tax-free.

Re: Parsonage Allowance Unconstitutional?

This same judge has shown a "hostility" to religion in other rulings before.
Rulings that have been overturned by a higher court.
