I did not think of that, but you have a very valid point. My brother and sister-in-law just finished putting up their tree this weekend.

Slippery slope. Can short sleeves and red shoes be far behind?

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

We were raised without the Christmas tree, and for a while, we only exchanged gifts after Dad decided that he did not approve of decorating. That stand lasted 10 years, and I have never been as enthusiastic about Christmas since. I am not a fan of the tree, but neither am I strictly opposed to it on any particular ground either. I have heard the argument against it, and while compelling, it has done nothing to remove me from an incredibly apathetic stance on the issue. My main reason for dislike trees is that they seem to be a lot of expensive work that I would rather not deal with.
Dad/Pastor still opposes the tree. That alone is enough to keep me from acquiring one.

We do have some lights now, as well as little ornamentation. Tinsel is also used. Beyond that, not much. I have a bit, and I will be using it to decorate the church tomorrow for our annual Christmas Party. I can hardly wait to get started. I do not have a lot of time to get it done either.

I was taught against the tree coming up. That went out the window when my mom left her first church and then backslid all together. I currently don't have one, but I don't have a problem with it either way.
