So if one stocks up what they can afford, and is still generous to those in need are they NOT trusting in the Lord, maker of heaven and earth?

Re: Are you ready?
I think Preachers have been so soothing over the years they have rocked most to sleep to the possibility of living in a nation unprotected by the Constitution.
It would work 2 ways. Some it would cause to get closer to Jesus, seeking him in the secret place. Realizing their great need for Jesus they would do whatever they had to in order to make their calling and election sure.
On the other hand many, having been spoiled by the preaching of how God would NEVER allow his people to experience truly hard times, would turn back to the flesh and do whatever they had to to save their life IN THIS WORLD.

I agree. There is no way you could ever truly be prepared, without the help of the Lord. Makes me think of Joseph, and the famine Egypt faced. Without the help of the Lord showing them how to prepare, they would have all died. But the Lord granted mercy and knowledge to them as to how to prepare.
I believe He can still do the same today.

Re: Are you ready?
A lot of people have the notion that doing nothing is "trusting in the Lord." If Noah had the faith they have, he and his family would have drowned.
Regarding the "it's futile to resist" idea that "someone will just come and take your stuff", if that were true it would be pointless to ever own anything, ever lock your door, build a fence, own a car, etc. The learned helplessness so many Americans wallow in is sad.

It is always great to be generous. Not such a problem if it is an area of the country, i.e. a county having a problem. You could always drive to another county or state to gather sustenance.
However, you get the whole country in the same situation, where do you go? This country wouldn't know what to do other than to act like a Black Friday gone bad.
You would have a whole lot of bad actors taking your stuff, pillaging your garden at night, etc. Just look how people acted during WWII. Turning against each other so that they could eat and have a place to sleep. They felt they had no choice, because they couldn't get out of their respective countries.

Glad you brought up Noah. He wouldn't have known what to do unless the Lord had directed him. Noah wouldn't have known anything was going to take place unless GOD had spoken to him.
So, the fearmongering is reminding me of Y2K. Our children wanted to know why we weren't stockpiling for the crash. We told them that God hadn't spoke to us about it, so we weren't doing anything and that they needed to be careful not to get caught up in fear. It can make you believe and do crazy things.

Re: Are you ready?
And BTW, do you have any idea how hard it is to stock up on water for a hurricane? We are at the mercy of God.

That's funny, I've never had a problem with that. The people who have problems like that are usually either broke and/or homeless, or else they wait till the last minute and then mysteriously find supplies are no longer available.
My heart goes out to the first group. Not so much to the second.
