Although I never served (wouldn't take me due to 1 too many dependents) I am the son of a Nam combat vet and grew up around Nam vets. Uncles and cousins served in Vietnam, Korea, and Pacific Theater WW2. All but one were grunts "on the line" with confirmed kills, CIBs or CARs, and physical scars to prove it. Every single one of them would tell you straight up war is bad beyond your wildest imagination, and never something to look forward to by anyone who hadn't already been in it.

I'm going to leave it at that.

I thank you for your service, though.

And yes, the tip of the spear requires even cooks and mechanics to function, everyone plays a vital role.

Kind of like in the church...
I should have said war can be for the greater good.

There is a such thing as a just war.

In the context of physical warfare, I agree with you that my choice to say, "war is good" was not a good choice of words and not truly reflective of the thought I was trying to convey.

Still, I am reminded of the Old Testament wars fought by the Jews. God commanded the Jews to fight many of those wars.

Describing war in terms, "good" or "bad" is too simplistic.

I don't see much of a difference between a kingdom and a nation after a quick word search. What would you say the difference is?

Imo, A nation can be a kingdom. There were 2 nations in Rebecca's womb, Edom and Israel. These nations were also called kingdoms when they were ruled by a king.

How do you interpret that verse in Matthew 21:43?

What nation is Paul speaking of in Romans 10:18-20

the nation is said to be the people, while kingdom or country always means government.

Of course not, the Bible describes the word of God as the sword of Spirit.

If the sword was an evil thing, then Jesus nor Paul would have never used it in their examples.

We have no problem using the word "sword" becasue Jesus had no problem using it many times.

A kingdom is a type of government, also whatever is under the jurisdiction of a king. A nation is a people with a common ancestry and culture. A nation can be a kingdom, can have a kingdom, and can have THE kingdom.

I interpret Matt 21:48 to mean the kingdom of God would be taken from Judea, and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it, just like he said.

Romans 10: Paul is quoting the Second Song of Moses in Deuteronomy 32. There is no specific nation in mind, God is saying if his people are disobedient he will use heathen nations to vex them.

The principle being, a nation can have the kingdom of God given to it... or taken away from it.
Okay, but if the kingdom exists in an earthly nation is that nation totally Christian? I think that is the point Boyd was trying to make with his book. It is one thing for the kingdom to be given to those of other nations, but another for a nation to be wholly Christian. Has the U.S. ever been a real Christian nation? Brother E you seem to be one of the more pesssemistic members here regarding our country being Christian or ever returning to being Christian, if it ever was.

I think we confuse "Christian nation" with regenerated. A Christian nation is a nation populated primarily by Christians, and who's government is primarily governed by openly Christian principles.

In that sense, America was a Christian nation, but officially repudiated Christ as King with the ratification of the Constitution. Ever since then, the federal antiChristian movement has slowly but surely been removing Christianity from civic life, replacing it with godless humanism.

There is a reason the Constitution includes a ban on "religious tests", and it isn't because of "Freeeeedumb!" It was to ensure atheists and Deists could run the country. That "freedom from God" has been extended to the states over time.

Although we are still de jure a Christian nation, we are de facto thoroughly heathenised.

It's all coming to a head, sooner or later. Hopefully with a decent outcome.
