Has any one started a small business; like a hot dog stand?

Just curious but I have been to Amarillo many times and I dont see the setting for one working there. Unless you have a very walker friendly area that is super busy it would be pretty rough to make something like that work. People are not going to drive out of their way to come to a hot dog cart. Unless its going to be soemthing that you use for mainly certain occasions such as... 4th of July city get togethers... city fair etc... otherwise on a daily basis thing you need to be in a larger area. JMHO

I would encourage anyone to start their own business, but the decision and level of success is many times dictated by the amount of research you are willing to do...unless of course, you have an unlimited amount of working capital.

Unless you already have a guaranteed location and you can see on paper for yourself how much income that location generated...don't do it unless you know for a fact you can have a good location before buying that cart

I don't see the market for a hot dog cart in Amarillo... but I don't live there. Do you honestly see a niche there with a cart?

To me that'd be like selling stuffed jalenpenos on the streets of NYC. Just doesn't fit in my view.

If the menu and items offered go much beyond the hotdog then you get into health dept. regs etc.

A cart can do good business from 10 until closing time around bars/clubs. A downtown setting is best. People bar hopping will stop but you should keep the same location. Forget setting up before 10 p.m. as most offer some type of food until 9 p.m. People will walk outside for a dog or polish.

It's dangerous at night but a busy bar offers good lighting, lots of foot traffic and the owners will help keep an eye out for you. You are good for their business as they are for you.

Vienna Beef, Best's Kosher Beef, or Nathan's are the best, especially if served Chicago style.

A good location for lunch is around a busy courthouse.
