Healing is good, but eventually some sickness will probably still take our lives.
The greatest power of the cross is in the promise of eternal life.

Re: The Power of the Cross

Preacher once told me a story. Old brother in the church, something like 90 some odd years old. Was losing his eyesight. Came up and requested prayer for his eyes, he wanted them to be restored. Preacher said, "But, brother..."

But, brother...you still owe me tithes from your lottery win.
But, brother... you have not been faithful to midweek service.
But, brother... I saw you glancing up at the TV in the doctors office.
But, brother... your too old and your body is going to break down anyway.
etc..

In my opinion, the healing referred to in Isaiah 53:5 is spiritual.
I know we like to quote this verse as applying to our physical healing, but that is not the context of the verse.

Re: The Power of the Cross

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

חֳלִי chŏlîy, khol-ee'; from H2470; malady, anxiety, calamity:—disease, grief, (is) sick(-ness).

Mark 2
Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man

1A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. 2 They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. 3 Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. 4 Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

6 Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, 7 “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

8 Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? 9 Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? 10 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, 11 “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 12 He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

Re: The Power of the Cross

Sickness was the result of the fall, Calvary reversed the effects of the fall.

James 5:15 15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the LORD will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.

And yet people get sickness or diseases all the time and many die.

I have been frustrated by this subject to the point where I don't know what to believe. I do believe healing still happens. I personally know people who have been healed, even those healed miraculously. But it's random and not every who is sick and receives prayer for healing is healed.

I loved Bro. Cole and for a time believed as he did about sickness and healing. That has changed over the years due to apostolics who have gotten sick or had a disease and died, in spite of the prayers of hundreds and thousands of people.
