Generally true.
We do use Facebook, and Messenger, incredibly effectively for corroborative studies that show Sinaiticus to be an 1800s manuscript. Although the information then tends to go to other venues.
Patristics for Protestants has been a well-run group, with civility emphasized. And I host a group called PureBible that tries hard to be both friendly and edifying. The Biblical archaeology groups are interesting.
The highlights are there despite the layouts. Since stuff is hard to find when it goes down the memory hole, bookmarking is very helpful. My fav tool is linkman.
